Day 14 is a one-pager. I had two pictures I wanted to post and that was it, so a one-pager fit the bill. I kept it simple too because sometimes simple is better.
This layout is all about my niece and nephew singing in church and all the joy and merriment it brought that day.
When I sat down and thought about what I wanted to do I knew I had to try and convey that joy I experienced sitting there listening to those little kids. Even now when I think back my heart was just lifted with joy and happiness. This sounds a little dramatic but sitting there enjoying that moment just made me forget all my troubles and worries...it lifted that burden off me. It made my heart lighter and brought a smile to my face.
With that, my idea was to have a lot of stars (because the kids were stars that day) and add the two Ali Edwards phrase stamps "Remember This" and "Let your heart be light" from her December Daily Kit. Those two phrases hit the nail right on the head for me and how I felt about that day. I never wanted to forget how I felt about those kids and that experience.
I will say that I was a little leery about using pink. I'm not really a big pink instead of red fan when it comes to Christmas BUT I loved how it made the page feel warm and light so I went with it. Also, I happened to have some stars from October Afternoon (a company whose product I absolutely love).
With these close-up pictures I knew I had to find a way to highlight the kids because they were getting lost in the sea of kids. There were colors everywhere, kids everywhere, and it was just too much. They were lost.
So first things first, change to black and white to get rid of the rainbow of colors. ok. good. Still not highlighting the kiddos. Ok. Back-up. Use magic lasso to highlight the kid, then inverse, change to black and white (which leaves my kiddo still in color). Ahhh...that's the ticket. I see Jack first THEN I see the other kids (which is hilarious in and of itself. I love how you can tell exactly what they are feeling whether it be boredom, unhappiness or joy.
Then I added a fun "cheer" sticker, some of those little plastic stars (repetition is a fun thing to do not mention the visual triangle) and then added the "Make Merry" stamp (all from Ali's December Daily kit)
Note: Visual triangles are a great way to add interest to your layout and balance it. Your eye will follow the triangle over the page. Also, it's a fabulous way to use your product. In my case those lovely stars.
