Day 13 is here and it's a big one. I had two different activities that I wanted to highlight so there are a couple pages that I'll be showing. I used to think that I had to stick with the script and following a 2 page layout but now...nope, I'm going to do what's right for the day. Even if it means having to navigate two different layouts in a day.
This is layout #1. All about my DUVCW (Daughter's of the Union Veterans) Christmas meeting which happened in the morning.
I wanted to, no, had to, do a spread about this. For 1, this group is made up of older ladies and every time we meet I'm reminded that they aren't going to be around forever. Every year we lose one of these beautiful ladies and I'm sad that I've lost the opportunity to be with them and talk to them. That's why I HAD TO do this layout. I couldn't, in good conscience, leave this out.
I used a page protector that has 1 - 4x6 and 2 - 3x4 pockets. I like this because it's an easy way to keep the interest on a page with different sizes.
One problem I encountered was I had 4 pictures that I wanted to include. I couldn't narrow it down to 3. I just HAD to have those 4. To counter the problem of having only 3 pockets and 4 pictures I decided to take the Instagram pic and scale it down to 2x2 and just glue it to the middle of the page protector. Yes, it's not protected but I'm good with that. It'll be fine.
I ended up doctoring our group picture by adding a white border and the title on the top left. My mother actually ended up sending it to several local papers which was cool. I know the DUV ladies love seeing our groups activities published in the newspaper.
I decided to put the day, title and journalling all on one page because I just liked the flow better. all pics on one side and the journalling, alone and prominent on the other side.
I used Ali Edwards' Kit for the gold transparency, gold glittered star and wooden #13. I chose gold because it is distinguished, warm and worldly and that's how I wanted to showcase this post.
I used cream cardstock with a dark gray remington noiseless font. Cream and gray because white would be too bright and not warm enough for the feel of the layout and black would be too harsh with the gold.
I added the Joy sticker on the top as well. It's just cool and I love the Joy sentiment because it fits the situation so well.
Okay so now on to the next layout of Day 13 - my nieces and nephews and a little boy birthday party.
Jack (my 9 yr old nephew) and Henry (my cousin's 2 year-old) had a birthday party that night (it happened to be a Saturday) so I knew I couldn't leave this event out either.
This page was difficult for me because I had a TON of pictures and it took me forever to decide what to post. Eventually I decided to post 1 each of the birthday boys and then the picture of me and my nieces & nephews. I could have done more but figured I would end up doing a big 12x12 layout for his birthday and I could tackle those pictures there instead of here.
Jack got a boatload of lego sets for his birthday. I KNEW I had to use that picture because right now, he loves legos. Loves them and I wanted to make sure I had a layout somewhere that highlighted that.
As for Henry, he had the coolest cake ever so I knew that was the right picture. Plus I love the happy faces of him and his mother. Love that picture. You can feel the love.
Lastly, I LOVED this picture of me and the kiddos. It was a labor of love and I usually forget about taking the picture because I have to fight to get these. #1 the kiddos don't like to sit down for a picture. They'd much rather be playing, fighting, eating, arguing, whatever so getting them all to sit down for 15 seconds is a labor of love. #2 I can't get all of them happy at once...which I just stopped trying long ago, so I just have somebody shoot a bunch of pics and hope for the best.
Just in a 5 minute period this is what went on to get this picture: Jack got kicked in the head, Korby sat there saying cheese constantly, Clara was drooling and chewing on my hand, Grace had a weird look on her face, Jacob was being insubordinate, Lucas was mad and crying and Ashton was crying so Nick is holding him up behind my head.
Honestly though, if they all looked at the camera nice and smiled you wouldn't get any of their personality so I'll take these less than perfect pics any day.
(Left to Right: Jack, Korby, me, Clara, Ashton, Gracer (my clone), Jacob and Lucas)
The journalling I put on a piece of cream cardstock that matched the other side of the page. Sometimes when I work with transparencies I don't mind if you can see the other side but in this instance I didn't want to see the other side. Mostly because the two color schemes are way different.
I used Ali Edwards stamps for the "Story of Today" on the top and bottom using black Staz-on ink and then I used stone gray Staz-on for the celebration stamp (from Ali Edward's Daily Story Stamp Kit). The ampersand and the puffy blue heart are from Ali's December Daily kit (linked above). The font is remington noiseless. I drew on the black border with an American Crafts precision pen.
