Cherries and Nickelback

Me eating one of my favorite foods, a cherry.

61108_take_a_bite_2

Yes, a kind of weird looking shot but I get sick of doing the same old same old. So, why did I pick this one? I like that I can see my eye clearly and that it seems to be a focal piont, no glare on my specs, my nose looks relatively small (yeah), and...you can see the cherry.

Me in one of my favorite shirts and pants. My Nickelback t-shirt and Gap Long and Lean pants. They are getting a little baggy though but then again I don't like wearing tight pants. Ughh...

The Stomach Flu and an Adventure

So right now I am sitting at the computer because I stayed home from work due to the fact that I puked my guts on from 5am to 10 am every hour on the hour. Yeah, lovely, beautiful, something you wanted to know on this blog. Anyway, I stayed hom 'cause I refuse to go to work when I am puking. Yeah, I probably could handle it but no I refuse. Work is not life and death. I'm not a doctor and even then I wouldn't go.

So, I am feeling a bit better so I thought I'd check my email and write a post while sucking down the Gatorade I bought an hour ago. Yep, I decided I'd grab my puke pot and head to Medford to get some Gatorade. I'm dehydrated and need fluids baby and it's a handy way to fluid-up.

Okay, so, now that I'm past that garbage here's what I wanted to post about. The ballet Swan Lake on Friday at the Fitzgerald with Mitchelley.

We found our way to the Fitz fine. No map necessary although we had to make a loop once because we thought we passed the place but we really didn't go far enough. Anywho, the show started at 7 p.m. and they had a children's ballet group perform Elfin. It was okay. I wasn't thrilled but it was alright. I can't say it was bad but just okay.

So the ballet started and Swan Lake is 4 acts long which is a lot. usually they are only 2-3. They did the entire ballet. It was so long. It was awesome but really long. The principal dancer was amazing. She was. She spun in circles en pointe and moved from the back of the stage to the front doing it without stopping. That was awesome! I loved the story behind Swan Lake so it was pretty cool.

Other observations: The principal male dancer had some serious muscles. It looked like he was chiseled from granite or something. Michelle and I can never understand how they can handle those tight pants. It looks like they have a giant wedgie.

Um...far be it from me to criticize as I will never be able to do ballet. Never. I mean, I've got strong legs but I'm too top heavy. :) I'm not graceful enough either. I'm no swan, more like an albatross. :) But that's okay. So there was one thing that bugged me. When the girls would their dancing in groups they were always out of sync and not lined up like they should be. You know? It annoyed me because I was distracted by it. That's the only thing I'm going to say I didn't like.

So...Michelle and I had to leave at 10 p.m. because she was tired and we needed to get home. How sad. I didn't get to see the end of it, but that's okay, I'll get another chance.

We leave downtown St.Paul and attempt to get onto I35 via Wabasha and we found it was blocked off, so we decide to go back to Kellog and try and get on there. We get back there and you know what? That was blocked off too. Okay. Next plan...go down Grand and try to get on there, it's south of the Xcel Center. Nope, that was blocked off too.

So my first thought was sh*t, we are trapped like rats on a sinking ship. We can't get out of St.Paul. Okay, no that wasn't what I really thought but it sounded funny at the time. I was trying to get Michelle to laugh because she just wanted to get home and was getting upset that we couldn't.

So, next plan. Get on 94, go to Mpls? or keep travelling south and try to get on a different exit. Okay, we pick Plan B. (Can I just stop and say that all this time we had no map. Yeah, no map. So we are going on instinct and prior visits to St.Paul. We are the travelling champions, well, reserve as Dad is the total champ but you get the idea.)

So we decide to try and find the exit we took when we went to the Wild Game, which was somewhere on the Southwest side of St.Paul. We tried that and once again were thwarted 'cause there was even more construction.

Okay, next step, we get to Snelling and decide to bite the bullet and get on 94 and go to Mpls, which we did. Unfortunately we were slowed down to about 15 mph because there was a huge accident on the other side. yeah, a car had flipped over, went up the embankment and rammed into the sound-reduction wall. It was crazy. Anyway, so we finally get on 35w and we get slowed down after crosstown because 35 is down to one lane. We actually stopped at one point. Lovely.

So in all that blather it took us 2 hours to get home instead of the usual 1 hour. :)

After looking at a map though we could have taken Snelling south to 5 then hit 494 but I didn't know how far south we were so we elected the 94 to Mpls route.

Did I ever mention that Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet was the very first album in my entire life that I loved every single song on it and I'm pretty sure I know all of the words to all those songs. Just thought I'd mention that.

Bon Jovi Concert!

I went to a packed house at the Xcel Center in St.Paul, MN last night. Yeah, filled to the brim, even the super duper nosebleed sections, with crazy 10-year old to geriatric screaming fans. It was crazy. and fun. :) It was a good thing I brought my ear plugs because my ears would still be ringing and I wouldn't be able to carry on a conversation with anybody without screaming. As it was I still feel deaf today and have the remnants of a headache.

Seriously the concert rocked. Although I preferred it when he played his old songs only because I know them better and they are a bit more rock 'n roll and hardcore but his new songs are good too. So here are some thoughts:

  • Ritchie Sambora is a hot guitarist a bit of a throw-back to the 80's but I don't care. He's devilish in his old cowboy/fedora hat.
  • Jon Bon Jovi has a big mouth like Steven Tyler. I never realized it before. He really opens it wide when he sings but he's got this sexy smile he likes to throw out too so you forget. Tingle tingle :)
  • Jon made fun of himself and said he couldn't dance. It was funny because he doesn't do much of it.
  • My favorite song of the evening was I"ll Be There For You. Ritchie sang it. Man it was hot and awesome!
  • The best songs of the evening besides the above were Livin' on a Prayer and Wanted Dead or Alive. I sang loud to both those songs.
  • I skewed the age curve down last night.
  • Some middle-aged ladies tried to steal our seats last night. We went to sit down and they were in our seats. We tried to tell them, gently, that they were in the wrong section. So we went and told the section lady and she got them out. Broads!
  • Daughtry sounded good.
  • I was really loving the guitar riffs, they are friggin' awesome!
  • Both Jon and Ritchie switched guitars a lot, I thought that was cool.
  • Two 10 year-olds fell asleep behind us. Not sure how they accomplished that with all the racket. I'm not sure why you'd bring some punks to a concert like that being that the tickets were super expensive.
  • Jon is very charismatic. He likes to raise his arms in the air like he's praying to God. It's interesting. I've never been at a concert like that. Normally there are pumping fists and devil horns in the air.
  • Spirit fingers baby. That's how Jon likes us to wave our hands.
  • They had these tv screens that did some friggin' neat sh*t. They would be separate like jumbo trons then they would swirl around and spread a part like a window blind. It was seriously neat. I'm glad they had the screens otherwise all I would have seen would be a couple rockers with v-neck shirts.
  • Jon changed clothes a couple times and he always had a v-neck so you could see his chest. errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (that's rolling my tongue like a cat. :)
  • He played a song that was never recorded "On the 4th of July" They were very passionate about it and it sounded good too. I couldn't catch all of the words though so that stunk.
  • They played from 8:30 to 11:00 or so. They didn't stop either. It was awesome.
  • When walked in the backway to the concert and I think we might have seen Bon Jovi's limo pull up behind us. I didn't see them get out so I don't know but it was possible.
  • Jon had a bit of a mullet goin' on. Just a bit. I prefer the short to the long hair. And the pianist says uncle Tim, "Looks like a poodle."

That's about all I can think to write so far. (Hey Auntie if you think of anything write in a comment and I'll add it) I brought a throw away camera in. I should really think about getting a little pocket digital for these occassions. I might have to. Anyways, I'll develop them today and try and post them tonight.

Oh, songs played: Livin' on a Prayer, Bad Medicine, Wanted Dead or Alive, I'll Be There for You, Bed of Roses, Blaze of Glory, Raise Your Hands, Lost Highway, We Got It Goin' On, Make a Memory, I Love this Town, Have a Nice Day, You Give Love a Bad Name, Who Says You Can't Go Home, Runaway. That's all I can Remember.

10 for Tuesday

  1. I'm going to the Bon Jovi concert tonight at the Excel Center in St. Paul with my aunt and uncle. Sweet!! So I've been listening to Bon Jovi on repeat all day.
  2. I just listened to Gracie's favorite song, We Got it Goin' On by...guess who? did you read the #1 today? so you know it's by Bon Jovi then? good. Thanks for playing.
  3. I bumped my knee on mom's coffee table last night. no particular reason why other than I'm a clutz so my knee hurts today.
  4. I beat the cr@p out of Ryan last night at Scrabble. Well, it was like 322 to like 275 or something. He was beating me for awhile then I pulled through at the end. He wanted to quit in the middle when he was winning and I said, "um, I don't think so. You always want to quit when I'm losing." I guess I should say, as Chris always says, "Ryan, I CRUSHED YOU!" hee hee Ok, gloating over now.
  5. I'm going bingo-ing on Thursday with my work crew. Sweetness. Maybe I"ll win a couple hundred bucks or something.
  6. I got free tickets to the Twins vs. Yankees game in June at the Dome. Again, sweetness!@ Super awesome seats too. Like 9 rows up behind the 3rd baseline. So basically I have to be careful of foul balls.
  7. Atonement came out on DVD today so I bought it, Widescreen version, naturally.
  8. While feeding the horsey on Sunday morning I lifted the lid of the grain bin and was holding it open with my elbow and then it slipped and scrapped my right-hand index finger which hurts like a mf today so I went to Target and bought some neosporin and a band-aid. Yes, I'm a hurtin' unit right now.
  9. "Your love is like bad medicine. wooaahhh!" Read post 1 and 2 if you are confused.
  10. I'm eating a chicken sandwich. It's tasty.

Ipod

I've added a new section on the right-hand side of my blog called "Ipod Top 25 Songs."

This basically is the Top 25 songs I've listened to on my Ipod. I'll update this every couple of weeks or monthly depending when I get the time. I just thought that the best way to show what I was listening to would be to show the songs I've played the most. Seemed appropriate. So anyways, that's that. Enjoy. Feel free to post a comment about your favorite songs of late.

me playing Rockband with Thomas. I did some singing too which Kimmie has on her camera. I might have to destroy those images. Nobody and I repeat nobody wants to hear me singing along to any song. Yeah, I'm that terrible. I'd be one of those idiots on the first show of American Idol with the exception of I'd never be that stupid and do it. :)

Me and Thomas singing along to Dani California. "California rest in peace, simultaneous release, california show your teeth, she's my priestess, I'm your priest. yeah, yeah."

Project Runway's winners. I took a picture of the tv screen. Pretty interesting dress, dontcha think? 45 yards of fabric. Holy Schneike's! Definitely avant garde.

Song mix A-Z

So Cathy Zielske posted a challenge to list a cd mix of songs with titles from A-Z. I thought that was pretty cool seeing as I'm a huge cd maker. I copy songs from my cd's and then compile favorites like favorite slow songs, workout cd, rock & metal, instrumental, classical, etc. So here's my compilation. I basically thought of my favorite artists and tried to pick songs I really like from them to fill the list. I also tried to get a good mix of women, men, country, oldies, rock, metal, instrumental, etc. I had the hardest time with X and Z of course. I used a site absolutelyrics.com to help me with that. Oh and I managed to put Nickelback, my favorite band at the begining with A, thought that was clever. :)

A-Animals, Nickelback

B-Beat It, Michael Jackson

C-Click Click Boom, Saliva
