Pinochle, drinking and a new limerick

Whoooahhhh! (think Al Pacino from Scent of a Woman)

I'm playing pinochle and doing a little bit of drinking tonight. Oh yeah. I've been looking forward to it all week. I'm super excited! As in Christmas morning-opening presents excited. As in I just got a bonus at work excited. As in I could feel some cold on my lip & chin the other day excited.

I'm trying to post a picture with every post so here's an old one of one my very bad pinochle hands that was probably dealt to me by Thomas.

Let's hope I don't get any hands like this one. Or I'll be swearing more than little Kimmie does around Jamie.

There are a few things that I know will come true tonight. As in it happens every time I get to play cards:

a. Thomas will deal badly.

b. Kimmie will swear like a drunken sailor. Every 4th word will be F*ck.

c. Jamie and Thomas will be partners, b/c that's how it always ends up eventhough we do a random draw for partners.

d. I will call somebody a hag...more than once.

e. I will tell Kimmie to, "pay attention."

f. Kimmie will yell at me for chastising her.

g. I will have a big smile on my face.

h. Aunt Kathy will see this blog post and be jealous.

i. I will be drinking, not to get drunk, just feel good. :)

j. Somebody will get set. (they always do)

Okay that's enough of that. We'll end on J 'cause that's the first letter of my name. What better reason?

A Tuesday Limerick: Out of my Head

I’ve got you in my head all day,

Like a song on repeat it stays,

Making me so nuts.

Indiana Jones Limerick

Honestly...I couldn't think of anything else to post about today, so I'm going to write a Limerick about going to the midnight showing of Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Indiana Jones is so cool,
he is super hot as a rule.
I can't hardly wait,
it should be so great!
I'm sure I'm going to just drool!

Softball Limerick

Okay, so lately I've been into writing quick Limerick's, thats a poem. Basically it is a poem with 5 lines. The first two lines have 8 syllables and the last word must rhyme, the 3rd and 4th lines are 5 syllables and the last word has to rhyme and the 5th and last line is again 8 syllables and the last word has to rhyme with the last word of the first 2 lines.

Does that make any sense? Well, if not, let me explain a bit better.

Tuesday Night Softball Limerick

Tonight I have a softball game,

I hope I will have perfect aim.

i need a good bat,

and pitches not flat.

or i will hang my head in shame.

Line 1: to-night i have a soft-ball game (8)

Line 2: i hope i have per-fect aim (8)

game and aim rhyme

Line 3: i need a good bat (5)

Line 4: and pitch-es not flat. (5)

shame rhymes with game and aim.

My Boss Turns 40 Today!

My boss turns 40 today so we decked out her office with black and white streamers and balloons and 40 confetti all over her desk. We put a ton of streamers in her doorway so it looks like you're entering a brothel (think beads) and she even has a princess hat that she has to wear. It's too funny. We bought her a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting on it from Byerly's (makes me drool just thinking about it. they have the best frosting.).

I wrote her a poem and pasted it on her office wall.

Turning 40 Limerick

One day a lady turned forty,

she cried oh my goodness lordy.

she stopped in her tracks

and thought about that fact,

and wished she was just still 30.

We bought her some items that she might need since she's over the hill now: multi-vitamins for old ladies, extra strength tylenol 'cause regular just won't cut it, a post-it note pad and a pen on a chain that can go around her neck to write notes on now that she won't be able to remember anything, chocolate 'cause everyone needs that and a deck of cards with huge numbers on it since she won't be able to see.

It's too funny!

TGIF

I'm glad it's Friday today. Well, I'm glad it's Friday every Friday because I love the weekends. Work is all well and good but you can't discount the need for downtime.

I don't know what to wax poetic about today. I've been feeling a bit icky, I'm not sure why but I have been. So this weekend is a welcome one. Although I'll be watching my niece and nephew on Saturday morning so that's not much of a vacation. :) Although I had hoped to be able to take them to the park to play. You know, wear them out some but it's supposed to be cold, wet and nasty so that's out. Dang it. Jack LOVES the park too.

Well, maybe I'll write a limerick. Okay, here goes.

Today is so cold and dreary,

it makes me sad and weary.

i sit at my desk,

feeling so grotesque,

trying to make myself cheery.

Afternoon Blues Limerick

One afternoon I felt so blue,

I just didn't know what to do.

I sat and pondered,

my bored mind wandered,

tapping my head like thinking Pooh.

Leaving Limerick

There once was a girl who left her job,

her co-workers were in tears and sobs.

She had to go

because her job was so-so

and her life was just a big blob.
