Jen's Words of Wisdom

  • "Your children will probably be soft, prissy creatures, as the children of hard-bitten characters are. And to make them worse, you, like every other mother, are probably determined that they shall never know the hardships you've known. And that's all wrong. Hardships make or break people." ~ Margaret Mitchell (Rhett Butler)

Bon Jovi Concert!

I went to a packed house at the Xcel Center in St.Paul, MN last night. Yeah, filled to the brim, even the super duper nosebleed sections, with crazy 10-year old to geriatric screaming fans. It was crazy. and fun. :) It was a good thing I brought my ear plugs because my ears would still be ringing and I wouldn't be able to carry on a conversation with anybody without screaming. As it was I still feel deaf today and have the remnants of a headache.

Seriously the concert rocked. Although I preferred it when he played his old songs only because I know them better and they are a bit more rock 'n roll and hardcore but his new songs are good too. So here are some thoughts:

  • Ritchie Sambora is a hot guitarist a bit of a throw-back to the 80's but I don't care. He's devilish in his old cowboy/fedora hat.
  • Jon Bon Jovi has a big mouth like Steven Tyler. I never realized it before. He really opens it wide when he sings but he's got this sexy smile he likes to throw out too so you forget. Tingle tingle :)
  • Jon made fun of himself and said he couldn't dance. It was funny because he doesn't do much of it.
  • My favorite song of the evening was I"ll Be There For You. Ritchie sang it. Man it was hot and awesome!
  • The best songs of the evening besides the above were Livin' on a Prayer and Wanted Dead or Alive. I sang loud to both those songs.
  • I skewed the age curve down last night.
  • Some middle-aged ladies tried to steal our seats last night. We went to sit down and they were in our seats. We tried to tell them, gently, that they were in the wrong section. So we went and told the section lady and she got them out. Broads!
  • Daughtry sounded good.
  • I was really loving the guitar riffs, they are friggin' awesome!
  • Both Jon and Ritchie switched guitars a lot, I thought that was cool.
  • Two 10 year-olds fell asleep behind us. Not sure how they accomplished that with all the racket. I'm not sure why you'd bring some punks to a concert like that being that the tickets were super expensive.
  • Jon is very charismatic. He likes to raise his arms in the air like he's praying to God. It's interesting. I've never been at a concert like that. Normally there are pumping fists and devil horns in the air.
  • Spirit fingers baby. That's how Jon likes us to wave our hands.
  • They had these tv screens that did some friggin' neat sh*t. They would be separate like jumbo trons then they would swirl around and spread a part like a window blind. It was seriously neat. I'm glad they had the screens otherwise all I would have seen would be a couple rockers with v-neck shirts.
  • Jon changed clothes a couple times and he always had a v-neck so you could see his chest. errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (that's rolling my tongue like a cat. :)
  • He played a song that was never recorded "On the 4th of July" They were very passionate about it and it sounded good too. I couldn't catch all of the words though so that stunk.
  • They played from 8:30 to 11:00 or so. They didn't stop either. It was awesome.
  • When walked in the backway to the concert and I think we might have seen Bon Jovi's limo pull up behind us. I didn't see them get out so I don't know but it was possible.
  • Jon had a bit of a mullet goin' on. Just a bit. I prefer the short to the long hair. And the pianist says uncle Tim, "Looks like a poodle."

That's about all I can think to write so far. (Hey Auntie if you think of anything write in a comment and I'll add it) I brought a throw away camera in. I should really think about getting a little pocket digital for these occassions. I might have to. Anyways, I'll develop them today and try and post them tonight.

Oh, songs played: Livin' on a Prayer, Bad Medicine, Wanted Dead or Alive, I'll Be There for You, Bed of Roses, Blaze of Glory, Raise Your Hands, Lost Highway, We Got It Goin' On, Make a Memory, I Love this Town, Have a Nice Day, You Give Love a Bad Name, Who Says You Can't Go Home, Runaway. That's all I can Remember.
